MaxMobility: The Wheelchair Magic Shop

SmartDrive on a wheelchair
My class and I headed down to class with our TA and teacher. We met up with our teammates and planned out the modifications of our car. We ended up keeping the same ideas as yesterday, but added a few more ideas to it after we split up and talked to other group members. We thought about adding a bumper to the car, for example.

After eating lunch, we returned to class and went to MaxMobile and our tour guide Ben showed us some of their products. The company made the lives of wheelchair users easier and put in so many factors to thought while making their wheelchairs. They made something called a SmartDrive that you could put in between the back wheels. It came with a strap to put on your wrist so that all the motion and shock could be recorded to control the wheelchair. The SmartDrive turned on once the wheelchair was given a little push and it moved the wheelchair at the same speed. To stop the wheelchair, you would just have to slam your hands onto the wheels. I thought this was very convenient because it was smooth, still required some exercise to start, and was light. What I liked about it the most was how easily you could just turn off SmartDrive, and manually use the wheelchair whenever you feel that you need exercise. Afterwards, we got to try out the manual wheelchairs, and one with SmartDrive.

We drove back to Vandy in our respective vans which were driven by RAs, and rushed to our arete classes. We finished watching yesterday's documentary First Position in dance class, and our teacher was feeling even more sick than she was yesterday. After having a really good dinner, I went out with Jackie, Mya, Jae-An, and Nakhul for soft night. We walked all the way to one end and back to Ben & Jerry's. Once we all signed in by 9, we talked in the basement, had a proctor group meeting, and then crashed to bed.
